What is Counselling?
Counselling is a private and confidential interaction between client and therapist. It is a safe space where people can offload, discuss, learn, and build a relationship with the therapist to help promote openness, trust, and understanding of self. Counselling is considered a privilege for the therapist; as they walk alongside the client at their pace, they share a rare insight into the life of another.

Who it helps and when does it help?
Counselling can be helpful for anyone facing challenges in their life. There is always going to be a time when life throws curve balls and no matter how together we think we are, some obstacles are too big to navigate on our own. Talking to someone that really listens and validates our emotions can be the first step to facing those challenges. With support we can build our ability to move through them. All emotions are welcome in the counselling room as they are considered helpful information about us. When emotions are acknowledged, they can lead us to more understanding and acceptance of self.

Why would someone consider counselling?
It is not considered a weakness to seek counselling, albeit the stigma around this. I love the saying ‘it takes a village to raise a family’, this is true not only for families but for individuals. We are a species that craves connection, the more people and support that we surround ourselves, the better. Counselling is like this. Having a therapeutic relationship with someone can help you understand yourself so you can live the life that you choose. We all have a blind spot, so having someone compassionately show you this, can open possibilities for you.
